PART I: VEGETABLES – PRODUCTION OF GOODS
I. / Introduction:
Sprouts are vegetables grown with regular vegetable seeds and have very short cultivation time, only 5 to 7 days after sowing is harvested.
Sprouts contain many minerals and vitamins B, C, E, …
According to scientific literature, sprouts have a nutritional value 5 times higher than regular vegetables.
Easy to grow sprouts, do not use fertilizers, pesticides, plant in clean environments without pathogens and harmful microorganisms
Sprouts suitable for urban agricultural production, can be grown all year round, and solve idle labor and bring high economic efficiency.
II./ Vegetable tools and materials:
1. / Breed:
It is possible to grow sprouts with various types of vegetable seeds such as white radish, choysum, green mustard, spinach, black sesame seeds, green beans, soybeans, black beans, peanuts …. But the most popular is white radish due to ease of planting and consumption.
2. / Tray:
It is possible to use a variety of different materials depending on the availability of each family such as bamboo tray, plastic tray, foam tray … The most convenient type of tray is the foam tray (the type of foam tray used to store fruit purchased from fruit stalls. Foam tray has many different sizes but the most common is the tray with size of 40 x 50 x 7cm.
3. / Shelf:
Depending on the size of the tray, close the shelf with the appropriate size. The shelf can be closed with wooden or iron shelves (iron with holes (3cm x 5cm) for ease of assembly), so the shelf design has 4 floors, the distance between floors is 40 cm, the depth of the shelf is 40 centimeters enough to place the sprout trays, the distance between the first floor and the ground is 25-30 cm to limit creatures such as toads, mice, ants into the tray.
4. / Planting land (substrate):
As a bio-organic clean soil, produced from coconut fiber (cocopeat), it has enough nutrients so in the process of planting there is no need to add any other fertilizers. Currently, there are popular sprouts growing: VINASCG1 Clean Coconuts of SCG Vietnam JSC
5. / Paper towels:
Used to line the surface of the substrate (cocopeat) before sowing, the purpose of lining paper on the substrate before sowing so that when harvesting the sprouts, it will not stick to the vegetables. Use paper towels “Pulppy 2-layer high-end napkins” size 33cm x 33cm. In addition to using tissue paper on the surface of the substrate, paper towels are also used to line the finished product container.
6. / Paper cover Carton:
Use to cover the tray for the first 1-2 days before sowing.
III./ Planting and caring operations:
3.1 / Soak – incubate seeds:
Seeds must be soaked before sowing, soaked in warm water for 6-8 hours, then incubated in a damp towel for 10-12 hours.
The purpose of soaking seeds:
+ Shorten growth time.
+ Removing impurities, particles are mixed in seeds.
+ High and uniform germination rate.
3.2 / Sowing seeds:
Prepare planting tray:
Put in a tray of 3 – 4 cm substrate, use your hands to crumble the lumps in the substrate, lightly let it be flat, water it to wet the substrate. Lining up the surface of a thin paper towel tray so that vegetables are not contaminated during harvesting.
– Sow the soaked seeds – crack the fangs into the prepared tray with the steps above. Depending on the variety, the amount of seed used varies: White radish: 60 – 80g / tray 40x50cm; Green beans: 60 – 80g / tray 40x50cm.
– After sowing, spray light mist sprayer and seal the tray with carton paper. Or stack the trays on each other in order to keep the moisture from evaporating, stimulating faster germination.
– About 12-18 hours after opening the paper, sprinkle water to spray the surface of the tray from 1-2 times / day, not watering in the afternoon.
– Harvesting: After 5 to 7 days of planting, the sprouts are 8-12cm high and harvested.
How to harvest: Use scissors or a knife (Type of paper pulverizer) to cut the surface of the shelf neatly into the inner plastic box (Type of container 200g) for consumption or storage in the refrigerator.
Note: after harvest, vegetables are not washed, stored in the freezer compartment.
– Planting a new batch: After cocopeat can be re-used for the second time by cultivating, picking up the stem and roots, adding new substrates for sufficient quantity. Do not reuse many times to easily develop pathogens in the next time. The growing medium after planting sprouts is used for ornamental plants and other crops.

Some things to note:
– Sprouts must be grown in a cool place with lots of light but not grown in areas with sunlight, direct rain and drafts.
– 1 to 2 days after sowing the Carton paper, spray the mist lightly enough to wet the tray. It is recommended to water in the morning without watering in the afternoon and in the evening because the vegetable juice is easily flooded and falls (Falling is difficult to harvest, labor intensive)
– 1 day before harvesting reduce irrigation or stop watering depending on the moisture content of the substrate
– Due to the short harvest time and the growing medium, there is enough nutrition so during the care of the sprouts, just water enough for the plants without having to apply any nutrient (fertilizer). other.
– It is recommended to use good varieties (uniform seeds, high germination rate, no mix of seeds and impurities, clean disease) for planting. Poor quality varieties are susceptible to rotten disease. If sick, discard it, wash the tray and dry it to isolate the pathogen. Do not use chemical pesticides to spray because it does not guarantee isolation time, affecting the health of consumers.
